At our first club meeting today, we began by introducing ourselves and engaged in creative drawing, and bookmark decoration. We also shared our favorite vegetables and fruits. Additionally, we conducted a survey to gather ideas for future Garden Club meetings. To conclude, we distributed wildflower seed balls and held a raffle draw, with congratulations to Peggy, who won a herb kit. National Night Out

National Night Out (NNO) serves as America's collective night out, fostering a sense of camaraderie and solidarity among neighbors. This national community-building campaign aims to strengthen police-community partnerships, emphasizing the importance of working together for safer neighborhoods.
On August 1, this year's NNO events were held in San Marcos, Valley Center, Poway, Santee/Lakeside, and Lemon Grove, with local sheriff stations graciously hosting the gatherings. The occasion provided a wonderful opportunity for residents to come together and engage in discussions about safety, sharing valuable insights and reinforcing the bond that keeps our communities secure.

TPHS Campus Cleanup

On Sunday, May 21st, we did a Campus Cleanup event from 8 AM to 11 AM, and it was a success. Participants from our community gathered together to clean up our campus, focusing on picking up trash and removing weeds. The event was not only productive but also filled with fun and fulfillment as we worked as a team. We managed to collect over 20 trash bags, making our campus cleaner and more welcoming for everyone.

We will be collecting toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouth rinse, and dental floss at North University Community Library and Cardiff-by-the Sea Library from February 18 to March 18. You can give to our donation page. For every dollar donated, three kids will receive a toothbrush of their own! The donations will be delivered to Feeding San Diego for local children and youth in need.

It was raining all morning. Sixteen volunteers distributed onions, oranges, apples, carrots, zucchinis, cauliflowers, and bread. SDG&E was on site to give out a warming kit. It is perfect timing since it was chilly this weekend. The kit includes things like blankets, hats, gloves, etc. Join us as volunteers or come to get food as needed at the parking lot of 9477 Waples St, Ste 100, San Diego, CA 92121, every Saturday morning, rain or shine. The distribution is outside of the marketplace.

Our group rescued 49 pounds of fruit cups (196 cups in total) and donated them to the child nutrition program at Heaven’s Window to end childhood hunger. We work together to provide free balanced and healthy meals to kids living in low-income families.

Today many more participants came to get the fresh vegetables and fruits. We distributed potatoes, onions, apples, oranges, mangoes, tomatoes, cauliflowers, and bread. Eat five servings of vegetables a day: three cups of carrots, a half cup of cauliflowers and a half cup of onions, and five servings of fruit a day: one mango, one apple, and one orange.

The year 2022 has passed. We welcome the brand new year 2023. In the past year, we gleaned tens of thousands of pounds of produce, made four thousand food boxes, and distributed three hundred thousand pounds of food to over eight-thousand families. In addition, we organized five food drives, collecting more than five-hundred pounds of food. We successfully built our team and will continue to do well in 2023.

Do you know that food takes up more space in landfills than anything else in the United States? Every year, nearly 80 billion pounds are discarded in the US. It is more than any other country in the world. Our group rescued 25 pounds (75 bananas), 22 pounds (74 apple sauce cups), 16 sun butter & jelly sandwiches, and 16 fruit cups and donated them to Porchlight Community. No food waste means no hunger and no greenhouse gas.

Please wear comfortable clothes, and closed-toed shoes, and don’t forget to put on sunscreen. Bring your own filled and reusable water bottles and carpool with us. Our group volunteered with San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club. We sorted Fuji apples and three different kinds of winter squash: spaghetti, butternut, and kabocha. It was super fun! We finished gleaning 1807 lb apples and 2500 lb squashes.

Our Produce Pantry team rocks! Today, almost four households came to get fresh produce. We distributed heirloom tomatoes, zucchinis, potatoes, carrots, mini watermelons, kiwis, and onions. Soaring gas prices, high inflation, and a multitude of other challenges post COVID, have led to a surge in San Diego County residents turning to the Produce Pantry program for support.
¡Nuestro equipo de Produce Pantry es genial! Hoy en día, casi cuatro hogares vienen a buscar productos frescos. Distribuimos tomates tradicionales, calabacines, patatas, zanahorias, minisandías, kiwis y cebollas. We were volunteering as a group again. We started a holiday kitting project and assembled three hundred boxes of food. These boxes will go to the people in need on Friday on a Together Tour at Southwestern College. Last time, more than one thousand households came to receive about 60 lbs worth of dry goods, fresh produce, and frozen meat protein.

You are not alone! Alzheimer’s San Diego is gathering over 1,000 participants for the biggest event of the year, Walk4ALZ. Volunteers get up early, show up with smiles, and enthusiastically greet participating walkers. They also hand out water, cheer on the course and give out snacks at the finish line. A total of five-hundred people, including adults and kids, attended the event. They enjoyed the crafts, beautiful live performances, and the first international dessert bar. The hosted countries are Colombia, Nigeria, Vietnam, Turkey, Croatia, and China.

When we volunteered at the Produce Pantry on August 20 for the first time, around one-hundred households came to pick up fresh produce. Yesterday (September 24), there were over two-hundred households. We broke our record with an increase of 100 percent. More people came and received healthy, fresh produce.

We surveyed the food distribution site inside the recreation center and found out that 90% of people who attended didn't know about Feeding San Diego and its free food distribution programs.
