Texting While Driving Is Dangerous.

Updated: May 3

Two car accidents were reported on Carmel Canyon Road near Del Mar Heights Road in the past two years. Three people were killed. Two of them were 17-year-old local high school students.

Did you know that 1 out of 4 car crashes are caused by texting? Texting while driving is quite common amongst teens, causing sometimes fatal car crashes.

We plan on creating an app called SafeRoads to stop this from happening. It will effectively prevent teens and adults from texting when driving. Basically, it will automatically lock the keyboard while driving, so that drivers cannot text while driving. Besides that, this app will include more features like unlocking the keyboard when stationary for more than three minutes, allowing stationary drivers to text. Another feature is managing message contacts as important or unimportant. When someone marked as important sends a message, the app will speak the message out loud, allowing you to respond by responding to the car’s microphones. Unimportant or unknown contacts have the option to be silenced or read out loud. You can also select the autoreply function to any message as “I am driving and will reply to you later”.

Once the app is installed, it will NOT affect all other functions on your phone such as phone calls, playing music, or GPS. This high-tech app will prevent drivers from texting while driving and save lives.
