Weekly Organic Waste Recycling

Updated: May 3

Today, as part of our community initiative, every household in our neighborhood has received essential items to facilitate the collection of food scraps. Every household was provided with a kitchen pail, a curbside green bin, and educational materials to help neighbors create a plan for collecting food scraps.

California State Senate Bill 1383 mandates organic waste diversion from landfills to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. So it is everyone’s responsibility to put the organic waste into the green bin, not the trash can. The organic waste recycling bins will then be picked up once a week.

We recommend lining the curbside bin with napkins, paper bags, yard trimmings, or newspaper. For leftovers of meat, seafood, or expired dairy that are particularly odorous, please wrap them in newspaper or food-soiled papers. Then store them in a small container in the freezer until the scheduled service day.

Acceptable items for disposal include fruits, vegetables, leftover food, coffee grounds, paper filters, and yard trimmings. However, please refrain from placing glass, metals, plastic bags, containers (including "compostable" or "biodegradable" plastic products), fats, oils, and grease in the curbside bin.

For additional information, please visit our county's website. Let's work together to positively impact our environment through responsible waste management to a greener future.
